Ok, I admit it, I've taken the plunge and bought MTC as well as SCAL so I can back up and use my cricut images without having to use DS, which has been getting dusty since I bought it--finally have a use for it, LOL. It was just way too limited, now that I've experienced SCAL.
I own about 43 cartridges, and am just doing my first backups now--so far, works like a charm. However, they suggest you put multiple images on your mat, which makes good sense since if I were doing it one image at a time as an svg, I'd be old and gray by the time I finished. But that ends up with all these images grouped together, so they have to be broken apart and ungrouped to be used individually. I hate, and do not understand, how to break apart images in MTC. I did it in SCAL, it was so easy. Problem is, then in order to save the file, I have to save it as a scut file instead of an svg. The only other way I can achieve this, is through inkscape. I know how to do this, but how much easier would it be to be able to just import these images into SCAL and then break them apart and save as separate svgs? With the added separate page function we have now, this would be awesome.
I'd really like to see this as a new function in SCAL. It is something MTC (what little I've used, through their gallery) is able to do, ie. you can save as .mtc but can also import and save any file as .svg even if it was .mtc to start with.
I think it would be really helpful.
Anyway, thanks for listening!

Re: Save As svg
In SCAL2, you can save images you trace as an svg. Trace your image and hit save instead of Ok and it will save your image as an SVG. I'm not sure but is this what you were asking for?

Re: Save As svg
I would like to be able to save images I have created (text on path, free draw) as an svg. I don't trace many items.....
Re: Save As svg
This is too funny, I came to the Forums today to ask that saving as an .svg be an option on a future upgrade. I LOVE LOVE LOVE SCAL2 and this would be a great addition.
Re: Save As svg
Yes!!!! I would really like this feature
I tried the other program and really liked that feature. It would be great to take your creation - save it as an SVG then open it up to view your final creation on a picture or a piece of wood.
I have asked them through email and they said it was something they will work on! I hope so!!!!! I could really use it

Re: Save As svg
I would love to save as an SVG, because I have made some files in SCAL 2 but people who only have SCAL1 can't open and use them.
They want to know if I can send them an SVG....I don't really want to go in and redraw it in Inkscape if I could just save as an SVG in SCAL2

Re: Save As svg
One way to take your scal file (scut2) file and convert it to .svg (without the grid lines by the way) is to do a screen capture of the SCAL screen. You will have a .jpg or .png file as a result.
Now go to a new SCAL page and open the .jpg image. When you get the trace box, do a save instead. This gives you a clean, no grid lines, version of the file, which can then be imported to SCAL as an .svg or opened in Inkscape for further editing. You can print from Inkscape if you want a hard copy.
Hope this is the answer to your problem, at least until we can print from SCAL.

Re: Save As svg
I do know the "work around" method to save a file as an .svg in SCAL but I would love a straight forward method to be able to just choose .svg as a file format option. This one thing is the only reason I am contemplating buying MTC although I do not want it for any other reason, I do know how to use inkscape and I much prefer designing in SCAL.
