I am making svg files for my wife that are layered like the mickey and friends type cartridges, so far a lot of Christmas stuff, and to keep everything in proper proportion you have to leave all the parts in one svg file and do you end up cutting everything out on every colored page.
It would be very very nice to be able to once the image is opened and sized to draw a box around what you want to cut ignoring the rest or be able to draw a box around the elements you don't want to cut and to delete them.
This feature would also be extremely useful when doing a "print and cut" to remove the the image and cut the crop marks, and once those are aligned be able to cut the image and ignore the crop marks.
It would make many things more possible to do with sure cuts a lot.
Highlight what to cut or not to cut for colored layouts

Thump,
Wonderful suggestion but I don't think SCAL could do this because when you open an .svg file it is 'complete', meaning one document and not individual parts. Maybe Inkscape could do this?????

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but what I think Thump is gettig at is that it would be nice to be able to cut any one piece of a file rather than cut the entire file at once.
I think the same could be accomplished if you could change the color of lines of a piece & select which color to cut or not cut. That is how the Wishblade software works. you can change the line colors on each piece & select or deselect which to cut.
I personally like that idea so that you can have the option of loading a full sheet of paper rather than pieces of different papers.
I can see a use for either or both ways.

Better yet would be a "cut" box similar to the "weld" box that would allow you to actually set whether or not this element should be cut. That way if you have to recut a mat due to something like - paper jam in the blade, you don't have to recut the entire mat, just the elements you set to "cut".
Right now I save an entire mat and then delete the images that I don't need to "recut". That is after my kids or cats get ahold of the images I cut the first time and trash them before I get them in my scrapbooks!!
LOL!! Definitely a good idea!!
