Do I need Inkscape?

Post by streetscrapper »

Hi all. I just finally purchased SCAL and am really excited about giving it a try... but I've heard on other boards that I need to download inkscape, and I'm wondering if that's the case. And, if so, why? What exactly is inkscape?

Thanks!

you need it if you'd like to design your own files by tracing images, clipart, etc.

you don't need it if all you want to do is cut fonts.

when you get the time, read through the posts on the inkscape forum & you'll get a lot of answers about how to use it etc. there are tutorials & some posts that give directions on how to do things in inkscape.

in this post ---- http://forums.surecutsalot.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=119 --- there is a link to the tutorials that I used to learn inkscape. They were very easy to follow & had me making my own files in no time. you may need to register to access parts of that board.

Learn SCAL first...Practice making cuts with fonts and dingbats...When you feel comfortable with that then you can start learning inkscape...I tried doing both at once and get really frustrated... So I stuck to just SCAL...Now I'm able to learn inkscape! You might want to download it just as a viewer of .svg files though...
