New Cricut Owner needing HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!

Post by Barmybird »

Hello Newbie here,

I have been looking at all the brilliant stuff produced by some very clever people here and hope I can get to grips with my new Cricut too!!
I wanted to ask a couple of questions please:
1. what is an SVG file please, as I have downloaded a couple of things from here and my CDS wont recognise them as they are SVG files!!
2. Am I right in thinking there is some software to purchase that will enable me to use any font installed on my computer to cut things out on the Cricut machine? God I hope so! its so frustrating having all this technology but not being able to use it without the appropriate carts, I dont mind paying but didnt realise I'd need quite so many different ones!!
3. Are there any tutorials on the site on how to do different things, ie: how to make a Word Book (bloom)
looking forward to talking and getting some help with stuff

CDS will not see .svg files or any other file that is not on the Cricut carts. The Sure Cuts A Lot program is a seperate program that you can get at http://www.craftedge.com it will let you cut .svg and any .ttf that you have installed on your computer

Hi, thanks for the response, I'll have a look at that site, it really lets you cut stuff out on the expression with all your fonts??

Hi Sandie,

SCAL is software to cut TTFs but many of the post were created in Inkscape which is needed to open the .svg files. It is free software that allows you to create files to cuts on SCAL...you are not limited to TTF.

There are tutorials for the Inkscape software that has been posted by MB members and the link is below. Everyone here is very helpful when you get in a jam.

I have inkscape and can't use it but it allows me to SEE the .svg files. In SCAL you have to open it and then IMPORT .svg files into SCAL. Then you will be able to use them.

SCAL (Sure Cuts A Lot) is the software from Craft Edge that allows you to cut computer fonts that you have on your computer as well as items that you create. Most people are using INKSCAPE to create pictures or combine pictures and fonts to create cards, mats, etc. that they then bring into SCAL and cut on the cricut. SCAL is needed to do the actual cutting, but you can do welding and other editing in both SCAL and INKSCAPE.
