Windows doesn't recognize file type?

Hi,
I'm new to all this, but I downloaded some fonts from dafont and I extracted them. When I try to put them in the fonts folder, I get an error saying it isn't the right type file. I think it is a TTF. I'm running Vista if that makes a difference. Anybody know what I should do? The fonts are on my desktop. Thanks.

I have vista too & I found after extracting the files I go to the folder & rt click on it & then click on install. HTH
