Inkscape file help

Post by TigerMisty »

I am not sure I can word this right..... But here it goes.....

I am very new to inkscape.....and I found a cute elephant that I wanted to tweak.... he was holding a guitar and I wanted him to hold some flowers instead. I was able to successfully remove the layers down to only the layer that I wanted and was also able to remove the guitar. That left me with a "hole" in his trunk. I tried to fix it by filling in with an oval... doesn't look perfect but it will get the job done. But how do I combine it into the other parts of the trunk so it is all on piece. :?: I tried selecting the hole and combining it.... it didn't work..... Any advice?

Below is the file if you would like to take a look....

Thanks in advance,
-Misty-

Misty, The reason that Path/Union didn't work was that the elephant was a group of 1. Ungroup it and you can Path/Union with the oval and with the line in the mouth area. Anytime you import vectors into Ink, it automatically groups them and you have to ungroup them before you can do any path operations. You can also use the node tool to smooth out the trunk area after Path/Union.

It is helpful to watch the message area at the bottom of the window when things don't work like they should. It gives information about what you have and why it isn't working. HTH
