Red box / Yellow box

Someone posted this question but it wasn't answered

What is the difference between the two boxes around my svg? A red one and a yellow one. They matter somehow, but I can't move them independently except by trial and error. What is their purpose and how do I stop them from splitting (or why would I want them to be split?).

the red box is the current placement and the yellow appears when youve moved it about.
