Hi,
I'm trying to make a script font that is 30 inches long (ex. The Smith Family). When doing this in scal, I can only go to 12 inches (size of the mat) so I'm doing each word as a different file. The problem with this is that the sizing of the font is sometimes a bit smaller and it is a pain to remember the width and height of each letter to try to get them perfect.
I have not yet downloaded Inkscape, but would this solve my problem. Would I be able to create the entire saying in Inkscape then cut out portions in scal? I need an easy way to do this as I repeat this process many times and would love to be able to save one file and modify that one every time.
Thanks for any help you give!

Yes, you could do this in inkscape. When you import the file into SCAL you would check the Keep Proportions box and then type in your length. Use the arrows on your keyboard to move the file when you cut each section. You might want to put some extra space between the groups of words in inkscape so that you aren't cutting partial words in SCAL.

Changing your mat size in SCAL to 24" x 12" might help also so you can see more of it at one time maybe?

Re: Help cutting 30" length fonts
You have all been such a great help, and I've gotten what I want from inkscape and imported it into scal. The big problem I have now is that scal doesn't see it (I think). When I try to cut it says cutting is complete when it didn't cut anything. I noticed that when I preview it, the text it is supposed to cut is not highlighted red - it's all grey.
I'm getting there, it's a slow process but I'm getting closer. Thanks for all your help so far!

I have cut things designed in Inkscape and imported into SCAL that were longer than the screen and didn't have a problem.
Just check that when you select the image in SCAL that the weld button isn't ticked on its properties.
