SCAL 3 question (outlines)

Post by hbicigo »

I am trying to make an outline of some words. One time it worked one time it didn't and I don't know what I did. I'm assuming something in a different order or a group / ungroup. But can't figure it out.

Hi, before giving you an answer that is not what you want I need a bit more info.

Which of these three images is the look you are going for? The first one has you cutting each letter out and glueing onto the it's own mat, the second one has all three words unioned and one mat to cut only two pieces, the third has you cutting each letter and placing it on the mat background. Of course you could remove the ittsy-bitsy pieces in the second one by deleting nodes or just enlarge the shadow a bit to make them go away.

Each style is done differently. There are two ways to do shadow, one in the appearance panel and one under the object menu. I find it confusing as they work differently. Let me how you want it and if you need a little tut I can put one together for you fairly quickly.

OK, when working in the appearance panel/shadow scal changes the original to a shadow. You want to get your words together, make a copy/paste and do the shadow blackout on the copy. You bump up the size to fit. I find it easier to guess at a number since I'm only working on a copy.

Let us know if this worked for you and if not what didn't so I can fix the instructions.

NOTE: If you use the add shadow layer in the Object/add shadow layer if makes a layer behind the original and it is easier to see and adjust just right. I like that one better.
Give both a try and see what you like.
