Re: Does scal open studio files?
no, scal does not handle .studio files.
if you have the 1.9 designer version you can save the .studio file as a .svg and then open those
only works on windows studio, mac version has never been able to save .svg.
I think it something to do with graphtech/silhouetteamerica not sharing the code of their .studio files.
if you don't have 1.9 studio designer version, PM me and I might be able to help you

Re: Does scal open studio files?
Well I wasnt aware that studio didnt export in any other format, I was just going to use my ecal software since im most comfortable in it and then just use studio to cut to my machine, but studio has some nice features that could add to my file that I made in ecal, but I wouldnt be able to save the changes in svg in studio to share here on the forum. which kinda blows.
Any how, I was thinking of just going ahead and getting scal so that I can just cut directly from there, with ecal i would have to make the file, save it , open studio and then cut. \
does scal provide the same setting scenario when you go to cut to your machine as in the blade depth recommendation and so forth like studio does?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Does scal open studio files?
Yes you can open the file in studio, copy (or screen grab/clipping) and then import the image into scal to trace
but as I said, if you have designer version 1.9 (windows only) you can then save and open svg files
when you click cut (and you have the silhouette select as your cutter this is what you see (the graphic on the right would show your file of course)
I use the mac version but I'm pretty sure they are basically the same
the sliders under material is where you set the speed & pressure and then you cut, if you use the media/material often you can save it by clicking the "+" next to material:<custom preset> then typing in what the media/material is and saving it. if you want to use it again, just select the media from the dropdown and your set.
blade depth is set by yourself and the software has not interest in that
but then I just set it to either mid way or max and use pressure to get a good cut (I use max if I'm cutting thick stuff like 300gsm etc or just can't get good cuts with the blade at mid depth)

Re: Does scal open studio files?
the hardest part is finding studio 1.9 or 2.0 to download as lot of links are no longer working.
if/when you do find one, make sure you keep the install file - just in case you need to reinstall anytime.

I did find a link to the 1.9 version, seems the biggest mat size is letter size right? Are you able to install both versions on one computer somehow? I cant seem to do it, i tried changing the file names and it still told me it had to uninstall one or the other, maybe I will put one version on my laptop and one on my desktop. I did save the version 1.9 in a special folder lol.

Re: Does scal open studio files?
you can, if I remember right you install one (I'd go with the 1.9 if I could) then rename the folder to something like "silhouette studio 19" then you go into the folder and rename the .exe file the same as the folder (so basically just add the 19 to the end of the file name - make sure you keep the .exe for the file.
then you install the other one. it should not find the old one as I think it would look for silhouettestudio.exe (or whatever the filename is)
you can do it the other way around. if you have 2.something already, you can rename that folder & file then install 1.9 and rename that then go back to 2.something and rename that BACK to it's original names - but it's more messy
if the install let's you choose where to install it, then you could just change the location to a silhouettestudio19 folder - that may work too.
this thread (http://tinyurl.com/babw6do) on the MTC forum discusses it (not all the links now work, by the way)
Angel, can you PM me the link you found - then if anyone else is interested one of us should be online and can pm them the link - Thanks
