shape fill in inkscape

I am still learning inkscape...even after 6 months of it. So much, so I'm afraid of that program now! :o anyway, i must have accidently changed some setting because now every time I try to create a shape (a star for instance) it comes in as a totally blank box on the screen. I have tried to fill it in with the paint bucket, but still come up with a totally "invisible" shape. Could someone please tell me how to change the "automatic fill" on shapes that I am trying to create? thanks in advance.

Probably either the opacity or the alpha was changed. Dan99 has a good tut on this here. http://dan99.blogspot.com/2009/05/video ... ty-in.html

speaking of Dan 99, did you read his blog and see his mom had a stroke? He has been by her side every day and that is why he hasn't posted anything. He sure has had his plate full this past year.
