Do any of you remember a program called PC Hugware? It was a CDrom with clip art images on them? Well I just found one that I have had and there are some cute images on there. I wanted to know how do I go about using those images in SCAL? Do I import them? Once I have them in SCAL how do I use them? Do I just cut them out or do I have to use the "trace" feature? If so how do I use the trace feature? Thanks for the help!

Yes they are still around, Provo Craft, the maker of Cricut software and of course the Cricut. if you have them with a
WMF format all you have to do is open them in Inkscape, use the selection tool and break them down by pulling them apart. After taking the layers apart save them as svg and ready to sent to SCAL to cut.
I found my old cd last year and it works beautifully, just remember it's the wmf format they have. If you notice they make very few wmf files and I haven't found any made in 2008 or 2009, I believe because Provo Craft wants us to scrapbook but not use SCAL to cut them. Oh well!!!!

Could you give me step-by-step instructions? I don't know where the selection tool is in inkscape. I just checked and yes they are wmf format. I played around with the image but couldn't get it apart.
thanks!

Wmf files
Open Inkscape, file open and find your file. Use the curser tool to select various parts of the wmf file so you can take apart and place where you want it on the mat. Save it to a svg in the folder of your choice. I have only SCAL 1 and unsure if you can just save the wmf save it as svg and import in SCAL 2. and take apart in layers. But in Inkscape it's no more then opening and taking it apart. My CD came with colored and black and white line drawings that were wmf files and I prefer the black and white line drawing and use the color picker to color each part of the wmf then save it as svg.

ok is that the arrow at the top left corner? Also when I open Inkscape there is already what looks like a piece of paper not just a blank screen. Is this supposed to be this way?

Yes the arrow is the selection tool. If you hold your mouse over the different icons they will say which icon they are
Yes the screen is supposed to look like this. It is a mat you use to work with Inkscape. If you keep your image in the box when you do a search in Inkscape it will show the svg that you have saved in the file. Most people however don't use the box. Unsure why but If I save there work I go back and go to file, document properties and choose from the pop up window fit to page selection and it will center your work in that box so that the next time I want to find the svg I choose open and go to the folder and find the file, it will show up in center of the box the side screen.
Good Luck

ok now when I click on the arrow I've tried clicking it then going to the picture and picking a item, say nose and trying to move just that item but it won't work. It moves the entire picture. Any suggestions of what I'm doing wrong?

You will need to do object>ungroup or path>break apart or edit node by node if the part you want to separate is connected to something else.

You know that is really strange. I went back to my old PC cd and opened it in inscape and it was already broken apart and ungrouped. Of course mine is many years old. but none of the grapics I pulled up needed ungrouped. But this is really good to know if I buy more. Sorry I didn't know about the ungroup on your CD. I do know all the wmf files that I have downloaded from
http://vector-cartoons.com/ come ready to pull apart. Good to know about PC hugware though.
