How can I wrap words around a shape and save as a png file

I want to use all kinds of shapes to do this, crosses, etc. I already know how to wrap words around a circle or box, but can someone explain to me how to do this with a more elaborate shape, like a cross? I also want to be able to save as a jpg or png so that I can use the new pic on candy bar wrappers.

Thank you so much for this, whoever answers it.

Here is one way to do what you're talking about.

And here's another using Pattern Along Path

Draw a shape (path), create your text, select both, then choose text>put on path, adjust text size and spacing to get the look you want and it is done.
I usually go ahead and finish my design in Inkscape so as not to lose quality and so he text stays editable, but if you really want to export a jpg or png, it's easy. For jpg, just choose file>export bitmap. For png choose save as and choose png from the pull down menu.

Here is a card I made using the text to path feature a couple of days ago.
