turning a pic into a svg using inkscape

I found a picture i want to uses as a svg how do i put it into inkspace and make into a svg file its in inkspace now just dont know how to change thanks

I import the pic, select Path;Trace Bitmap, usually have to up the #'s for Brightness Cutoff til it looks how I want it, click OK and close. Then click and hold on the pic and slide the traced image over and delete the original. Go back to Path;Object To Path and Save As.

I'm sure this is a pretty simplified way but it always get me what I am after.
There are quite a few people on here that do amazing things with Inkscape.

Thank you so much for this tutorial, I just did a logo. Off to try and cut it now. So much to learn, so little time. I might just need to quit my job!!!
