SCAL 5 pro gives up and cuts a line across the whole design

I'm using a laser point 2. Just upgraded to catalina on Mac os like an idiot and of course everything under the sun broke including SCAL 3 which worked absolutely fine. Not on Catalina though. SCAL 3 does not support it.
So after paying to upgrade to SCAL 5 I now find any designs over even slightly complex, like requiring more than a minute to cut at about 600ms will just give up and chop right down the vinyl. First time this happened it ruined a brand new 30 METER roll of vinyl. Thanks guys! Since then I pre cut the approximate shape of the vinyl which is a pain and long term not a solution at all. But for now, we don't want to lose another roll.
I have watched this thing in action. Sometimes it is accompanied by a grinding sound. Sometimes not. But it ALWAYS fails.
Has never happened once with SCAL 3. This is very clearly a software issue. I have 2 laser point 2 machines. Both will fail the same way.
Anyone else have this issue with this particular machine? Or perhaps this is a common thing with SCAL 5 at the moment? I am on the latest version.
