Here is an easier way. This will work with SCAL4 or 5 for Windows and SCAL4 for Mac

1. You need a copy of SCAL4 for Windows or Mac
http://www.craftedge.com/purchase/craft ... _scal4.php
or SCAL5 (32 bit version) for Windows (note: 32 bit version will run on both 32 and 64 bit version of Windows)
http://www.craftedge.com/purchase/craft ... _scal5.php

2. Download the 3rd party plugin for the Cricut
Windows
https://ufile.io/j58oi
or
https://ufile.io/mo1k7 *need to manually install keys

Mac
https://ufile.io/f19iz
or
https://ufile.io/1xd6b
or
https://ufile.io/7g5ii *need to manually install keys

3. After you install both SCAL and the Cricut plugin, start up SCAL, go to the Cutter menu and choose My Cutters and then Manage Cutters. Choose Cricut in the Company Company/Brand drop down list and then click the Add to list button.

You should now be able to cut with your legacy Cricut (Personal, Expression, Cake, Create). Please note this will not work with the Expression2, Mini, Explore, Maker). For the Explore or Maker models, you would just use SCAL4 or SCAL5 to do this http://www.craftedge.com/tutorials/desi ... nspace.php

Hello
I just upgraded to SCAL5, and became very interested when I read this post - as I have both a Cricut Personal (v1.31) and an Expression (v2.31) which I very much would like to use with SCAL. I did as described -installed the 32 bit Version of SCAL5, installed the plugin, and the KNK driver. Rebooted. But the Connection still doesn't work. I get the Attached error Messages.
I am confused as to what port to choose - there are a lot of COM ports to choose from - the one also marked as USB?
I have tried several - from two computers, and tried both my old Cricuts. No luck - the same error messages.
Can anyone advise me? Thanks in advance!

If the driver successfully installed, then you should be able to find it under Windows Device Manager in a folder called Ports. So, with a Cricut plugged in and turned on, right click on your WIndows start button and select Device Manager. First look for a Ports folder. If you don't find one, look for anything else in Device Manager that might say something like Unknown Device and/or something with a yellow exclamation on it.

Thank you, Sandy, for responding. I did as suggested - see attached pic from the Device manager (in Norwegian, Porter = Ports folder.) So in SCAL I selected Connection= USB and Port = Com5 as the other pic show. But the same error message still comes up - no connection! Is there anything else to do?

Thanks for the tip. I did that - and it seems the KNK driver is installed - see pic. (Norwegian text - Porter = Ports) When I try from different USB ports on my computer, the Device manager seems to recognize this as the COM port designed as USB changes. But still no luck - same error message saying cutting machine cannot be found. Also, no response when I try to test connection.
I've tried with another USB cable to see if that was the problem, but same thing happens. I also tried cutting from SCAL to my Gazelle, and that works just fine.
So the problem seems to be spesific to my

Well, Windows is definitely finding and installing your Cricut correctly. In the drop down list in the SCAL Cutting Settings window below USB, do you see COM5 as being connected? It should say something like USB-Serial next to COM5.

Yes, it does - as the picture shows. But still no connection

I have no idea. Since I don't use Cricuts, I can't test anything. :(

Hello everyone,

I was directed to this thread by SCAL as I have a Cricut expression 1 machine and as no Cricut software (Cricut craftroom or design space) works with it anymore, I was told I need scal.
After reading all the comments in this thread, it seems I need SCAL 2 and 5.
5 to design in and then export that design to ver 2 to be able to cut.

Is this correct?
Do I need to purchase both versions or will the ver 5 code work with ver 2 also?
If not, how do I buy ver 2? As I have looked on the site and have not found a d/load link for it.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Check Etsy. I believe SCAL2 is still sold there by some third party.

Thank you for your reply.

After further research, depending on my design needs, I may be able to just get away with only purchasing SCAL 2 (about $75AUD).
So I am off to look on Etsy.
*wish me luck*

Thank you,
