Bingo! I may have found the issue. There's a slight difference in one of our preferences tabs in SCAL2 which indicates we're not running the same version. Go go Help>About Sure Cuts A Lot 2. Whatever version do you have? I"m on 2.044.

Well, I recommend downloading and installing the newer version 2 into a different folder so that you can test it out. Don't forget that the entire reason Version 3 was released was because of the law suit. Basically Version 2 cut to all of the Cricuts at that time and then, because of the law suit, SCAL released version 3 and moved on from there.

Also, I can post on Facebook and see if anyone is successfully using 2.044 to cut to a Cricut... if you like?

I thought about downloading 2 again but when I clicked on it on the craft edge site it opened up the window to download 5 so I don't know how to get to 2 to try this

Sandy you have the patience of a saint, for which I am extremely grateful because you got me there in the end. I just updated SCAL2 to v 2.044 and it only went and worked! Thank you so much for all your help with this :D

You're very welcome! And note that the reason I don't let these things go is because they're like a puzzle and I love puzzles. :)
