Accurate cuts with Cricut and SCAL2

I am trying to cut a rectangle with three straight sides and the fourth side has a wavy line, or any shape really. I start out with the size in the measurement fields. Looking at the screen I see a dotted line around my shape but the wavy line does not go out as far as the dotted line. When I cut the shape it cuts 3/8 inch short. This is consistent. I then cut squares starting at 3", 3.5" 4", 4.5" up to 7.5". Each square is 3/8 short on the height and perfect on the width. So for my rectangle above I made the correction for the 3/8 inch and still was cut short. I am wondering if that dotted line on the scal screen is where the rectangle should be and should I use nodes to bring the line out? Is there a way to add nodes in SCAL. Usually I design in inkscape but I have these annoying problems when I get into SCAL.

The dotted line that runs near the border of the mat on the screen represents the no cut zone. Anything outside that border will be cropped off, so you should keep everything within the dotted border.

Also there are limitations on the accuracy of cutting with those older Cricut machines, so you cannot expect 100% detailed, accurate cuts as they have the lowest cutting resolution compared to all other cutting machines on the market.
