Thicken lines in font

I am just now starting to use my eCal2 after having used the first one for a long time. I often want to thicken the letters in my font so it cuts better and I would use the Shadow box in "Appearance." There is no more box like that and I can't find where I can go to thicken my lines. Please Help! I'm right in the middle of a project. Thanks.

The shadow layer feature is in the effects menu on the top tool bar. I think this is what you are looking for.
