help

Post by Barmybird »

Hi, can anyone help please, I'm running SCAL 2, I don't understand why sometimes an item I'm working on suddenly gets a great big square round it, what I mean is when I select the item instead of the selection box being around the object its huge and I can't see the corners to change it, it also acts really weird, ie: when I do something to it like delete some nodes it disappears off the page, or when I try to go back if I made a mistake it goes back to where it was before I did any changes, so I lose all the work I did on it!

hope I'm explaining this in a way someone out there can understand if not I could try doing a screen capture or something

hope someone can help
many thanks

Would you be able to post the file you are trying to cut? Is it an svg?

I forgot to say it was an image I put into inkscape and made into an svg file, I changed the image by using the shadow feature, but it just started acting weirdly and then the 'box' got bigger and bigger!

I can't say for certain without the svg file, but I feel like there's a rogue node somewhere. Can you take that image (in Inkscape) and use the paintbucket? I'm not very good at explaining things. Sorry?

Posting your svg file is pretty much the same as posting an image. "Choose your file," then "add the file name." I hope that's right. It's been awhile.

What version of SCAL2 are you using? If it's older than 2.043 or 2.044 you should request an update. http://www.craftedge.com/support/lostsw.php

I opened your file in 2.043 and played with the shadow settings and while I had a bit of a gap at the bottom of the bounding box there was never anything extreme. I didn't see any stray nodes in Inkscape.

Also, if you traced in Inkscape why not create your shadow in Inkscape too? If I want a certain size mat behind my shapes I duplicate the shape, add a stroke, set the stroke width to the size mat I want, use Path/Stroke to Path. Get rid of the inner shape and Voila! A mat that has nice corners and is the exact size that I want. I know it sounds like a lot of steps, but there really aren't that many.

Hi Heather

its taken me about 5 years to figure out how to make an image into an svg so your suggestion might be easy but I have no idea what you're talking about ha ha ha... you can't throw any light on why the bounding box (wondered what it was called!) is so big then? it does that a lot and is really annoying cos the image will just jump off the screen and I can't find it again, I also tried to modify that image by deleting some nodes and every time I tried to copy and paste the image when I had it how I wanted it, the blasted thing would revert back to its full size again! very frustrating

Sandie

oops forgot to say I'm on version 2.44 and have reinstalled it several times on several machines!
