Is there a way to "shape" text to a path and...

This might be a stupid question, I've only been using inskape for a couple of weeks.

I'm trying to make a design for a wall quote in my baby's nursery.

I drew a wavy line, (since I want the text to be wavy) and then did Text to path which worked great....but when I delete the wavy line path the text goes back to a straight line.

I've looked for a tool to just shape the text line and I can't seem to find it. Any help is greatly appreciated!

this is what I'm talking about:

Select the text, then from the menu Path/Object to path. After that you can delete the line.

I should have said this the first time, but when the text is still text, you can nudge it together or apart by either highlighting the letter or putting the cursor behind it and using Alt and the arrow keys (up and down also work). Alt+[ or Alt+]will rotate anything.
