Scal2 stall at checking mat

I purchased SCAL for my dd a couple years ago but we had not used it until yesterday when we tried to cut a file a Disney friend had designed for us. It cut the first of 6 colors we needed for a paper pcing great. With the 2nd color after clicking on the scissors it stalled on checking mat. I reloaded SCAL. unplugged cords, restarted machines...and it took 6+ hours and probably over 50 attempts to cut those other 5 colors...PLEASE if anyone has any experience with this could you please help us. We are soooooo frustrated!!!! I am using windows xp and SCAL2. I just finallt had to continue to load SCAL after each cut and sometime opening and closing file to make it cut. Her cricut works fine with just the cartridges so it has to be the SCAL program...
