Re: Going to Hawaii Made myself a cover up

I was bothered a lot by all of this so I went exploring on 4shared. It seems like a setting got changed and the option to have the files "private" was checked. Don't know, can't explain but I changed it to "public" and tried it on DH's computer with him being the guest and it worked.

So I hope this clears it up and you can try downloading the jpg/svg again.

Sorry!!!

Not me, 4shared is completely blocked from access on my network now, like I say I have no problem with advertising as it pays the bills but any website that employs or permits advertisers to employ sneaky tactics to try to get me to download or install software which I have NOT asked for is just not worth a jot, it is EXACTLY this kind of practice that results in millions of computers infected with spyware and viruses.

The pages are absolutely riddled with download buttons all of which are there to appear as though you will download the file you want but download/ install software I have not asked for, the smallest and least significant looking of them is the only one which ACTUALLY DOES download the file you are looking for - It is a terrible website!

As for sharing here, I assume the forum permits zip files? if so you could just pop it in a zip and upload then it would not display on the forum ;)

I don't think we can upload a .zip. It is really okay, though...I am fine with the lower resolution photo.

But, total agreement here, on the 4shared. I like that one BOX, or when people just have them in their google docs...that is simple too. But, I don't really know much about the sharing setups.

Louise, if you have a positive, helpful suggestion as to how I could offer my shared files I would appreciate it. I do not have my own server and cannot set one up.

Do you know how to use ftp, or willing to learn how? It is pretty much like a windows file manager, a directory tree on the left to select the files on your computer and a similar one on the right to select where you want to upload the files then drag from one side to the other.

If so, I can set up an FTP account on my server you can use providing you don't start uploading HUGE files like 20mb or something

Online you would have a folder structure you create such as this..

http://www.urspark.com/papasue/

You can link to individual directories..

http://www.urspark.com/papasue/svg/

Or directly to an individual file..

http://www.urspark.com/papasue/svg/borderpeeloffs3.svg

If you prefer a more personal link you can get a domain name and have something like this instead - Note these links will NOT WORK when clicked because I do not have the domain name..

Main folder - http://www.creationsbypapasue.com
SVG folder - http://www.creationsbypapasue.com/svg/
A single file - http://www.creationsbypapasue.com/svg/b ... loffs3.svg

I cannot provide a free domain name, if you wanted that option you would have to send me the money to buy the domain name - I am just an individual not a hosting company or anything ;)

Current cost of domain names are roughly (this is the price I pay, I am not making any profit from it)..

.com domains - $42 for 2 years
.co.uk domains - $14 for 2 years

For file sharing I would just go with the cheapest option really, it makes no difference to anything and the files will always be stored on USA based servers because that's where my hosting company is ;)

It would seem you can upload a zip file, I suspected you would as pretty much all forums that allow uploads allow zips.

The file size must be 2mb or less as with all uploads ;)

Louise, thank you for your generous offer to host my files and all the instruction on DIY. Since I give my files away it does not seem worth the bother to do it this way. If anyone wants me to email them any file all they have to do is PM me with an email address and I'll send it to them.

It would work the same way as 4shared pretty much.. except no adverts or anything else on the page just your files..

If the link http://www.urspark.com/papasue/ is acceptable (which really I would have thought it was as it is just a file share link) then there would be no cost involved at all, you would have them online for people browse and download at will 24/7.

There are other options such as mediafire, but pretty much all of them have drawbacks such as the file only being available for 90 days, max file size, limited downloads etc etc in order to force you to pay for premium.
