font help for vista

I have found several fonts that I wanted to use but it seems that they are not working. I downloaded Fontleroy Brown, Noodle Script, Pharmacy, Gessele and Garton and when I open them there is no font in the font viewer!! They don't open up in word either. I've downloaded from several sources and the same thing. Other fonts I have downloaded work just fine!

I am using Vista - do you think that is the problem???

Check the properties on the font file. I noticed that some of mine are blocked after installing on Vista.

Hope that helps you out!

Did you 'extract' and then 'install'? Most files are 'zipped' so you have to do the 'extract' and then 'install' thing....

I've got Noodle Script on my Vista - just downloaded it last week.

I extracted but didn't install.

I'll have to check properties and see if that helps.

You have to install the fonts -

control panel>fonts
File>install new font (If File isn't an option click on Alt it will bring up the toolbar)

It will bring up an install window - locate where you have your fonts and then install.

Or if you don't want to install it and muck up your font folder. Just open the ttf and then minimize and when you open your programs that font will show up.

Well, it sure is wierd.
I installed the fonts that were giving me trouble - fontleroy brown, noodle script, gessele, garton, and pharmacy (you can tell I was trying to duplicate some of the QK fonts!)
Anyway, they are installed and I can type with them and use them in SCAL.
But here is the funky thing. In MS Word there is a space for them in the alpha listing of fonts, and the little TT icon is next to where they would fall in line - but the NAME doesn't show up!!! Now if I select it, in the separate box it shows the name.
You know if I understood this stuff I might make more money than I do now!!

Lisa (or anyone else),

I've seen this tip posted before but I guess I don't understand it. I have downloaded zipped fonts to a separate folder. All are in one folder. I have not 'installed' all the fonts I have downloaded. Are you saying "Extract" but don't install?

Shari,

Yes, choose extract all
it will bring up a dialog box
choose what it says
then go to that folder
open the ttf font
minimize
and then open inkscape
you have to open inkscape after you open the font
then it will show on the font list as long as you have the font open and minimized

I didn't understand it at first either, mine never showed up, but I was forgetting to open inkscape after I opened the font.

Hope this helps

Lisa
