PLEASE help me

I have an old laptop with winXP on it. SCAL2 works great on it, but the laptop is dying. I got a new laptop, with Windows 7 on it. Installed SCAL2 from the old install file and activated it through CE. It loads up and works fine, but when I try to cut it won't recognize my Cricut E. If I disconnect my new laptop, connect my old laptop, I can cut fine. The only difference is xp vs 7. I have tried searching the forum and Google for help but am coming up empty. I am aware of the issues with Cricut, which was why I bought a new laptop BEFORE my old one died so I could keep SCAL/Cricut.

Any help would be very, very appreciated. A new cutter is not in my budget at the moment, I really need to get this working. Thanks!!!

I got a w7 too. have you tried installing DS? I ran it but didn't opened, just in case

also make sure you have the drivers you need. Sorry I cannot be of more help... hope the smart people will come soon and help out

I also had major problems trying to get my new Windows 7 64 bit pc to recognise my Cricut E. See this link for some of the suggestions viewtopic.php?f=6&t=13190. Many ideas from forum members past and present.

Did your new laptop come with Windows 7 pre-loaded? If you have the disc then I found that doing a complete uninstall and then re-installing Windows 7 did the trick the first time and then when it happened again realised I had an over zealous anti-virus in the background. Just turning off the AV didn't work so once again had to completely uninstall the antivirus program (I had Norton 360 and caused so many problems that I went back to AVG free) and then re-install after I got the pc to recognise the CE. All at bit of a pain to do but definitely worth a try if all else fails.

just thought of another solution: left click on the scal icon. a window appears, click on properties. click on the compatibility tab and select the compatibility mode for vista. Hope this helps.

Hello, this is the same question I have been asking on here and it seems that maybe I wasn't asking it right. I have a desktop with windows 7 on it and my scal works fine, but I got a new windows 7 laptop and I can't get it to work. I downloaded scal2 but cannot get the updated version to download on it. I see you say to go to DS ( I am sorry but I don't know what DS is). Any help- would be appreciated. It has been months and I can't seemto get my laptop to be the same as my desktop. I have the serial number and the activation codeand even can use the scal to cut,butit does not have the features that the updated version has on my desktop. Please help me,wold like to have a back up in case one of these machines dies, lol, as they so often do. When I go to this DS site, what do I do then, download, run, and then turn off pc and then reboot and it should be on the scal program? I hate to sound so dumb about this but I am not computer savy, so thanks in advanceforall your help. When I go to support they just send me act. code, which I already have.
