Is inkscape funny about some fonts?

I'm going through the tutorial from the Paperthreads forum and started to work on the
welding words. It doesn't seem to like some of the fonts I choose and doesn't change them at all.

Is this right or am I doing something daft?

No you're quite right - there are fonts and dingbats that Inkscape just won't recognise no matter what you do. The only thing in this case is to use a graphics program if you have one to make your template then save as jpeg, open in Inkscape trace as bitmap then save as .svg
