Craft Edge

I'm trying to figure out if I can only use part of an image, or in other words, if I can crop the image I have in SCAL.
I'm manipulating a flame job in SCAL. I want to use one group of flames a little lower than the rest and crop off the bottom of the flame.
Would I be better off manipulating the images to what I want in my editing software (Gimp or inkscape) and then importing the whole thing from there?

You can do it in either... Just draw a box around the part you don't want and in SCAL go path/back minus front..
