I am working on some valentines and having trouble with previewing in SCAL. The design is a cutout heart with a name in the middle. When I go to preview in SCAL the heart and first letter in the name show as cutting lines but the rest of the name is grayed out. I welded all the letters together and grouped the whole design, but the last 4 letters do not show cut lines. What am I doing wrong? TIA

If you want the name overlaping and welded...do that and lay it on the heart(don't "group" them though). I think this will work.

I'm not that great in SCAL, but this is what I tried and when I previewed it, it appeared as though everything was cut out and welded the way I wanted it to be. I made the open heart by laying a large heart over the smaller one, selected them and did a path and exclusion. Then I typed a name, ungrouped the letters with the weld option slected and moved the letters together so they overlapped. The preview showed they were "welded." I moved the open heart and played with the size until the name was centered the way I wanted it to be. I then selected the whole design (by lefting clicking on the mouse and holding down while dragging it over the design), then clicked on path then union. I hope I got the steps right.

gj1 and pastda3

gj1, yes that is what I was looking for. It even looks better than what I was doing. Now the directions you gave, was that how you created this one?

pastda3
I did follow your directions and havent cut it yet. I think your will be a different outcome. Do you think the same? I am going to cut both tomorrow so I can see the differences and learn.

Thanks to both of you for your time, help and patience with this. I am learning, and so appreciate the help on this board. Thanks so much!

When I realized what you wanted(I misunderstood at first), I did it exactly like Pasta3 said to do.
AND...you're welcome!
