i had scal ages ago and as i am so computerish i gave up lol. After a convo with someone today telling me how good it is i have just redownlaoded my version 1. now i cannot remember how to do anything at all! i have been looking for tutorials on here but most seem to be for scal2. where can if ind idiot guide tutorials for scal 1 please? scal 2 seems a lot better but i cant fork out an extra $35 if i still dont get on with it.

i assume i need inkscape is it?? or something to open up files? i tend to just use words / files others have created for free or ones i have bought as it seems easier. how do i transport these into scal please?

also how do i check what firmware my cricut has? and how do i update the firmware? i cannot remember if i have updated the firmware since i upgraded to my expression

im soooo confused!! i need sereious help lol

ooo alos there used to a super blog blue something?? with a lady who had awesome things to download the best projects i have ever seen! i used to download loads and saved them but i lost them all :( does this blog still exsist?

You will be hard pressed to find good tutorials on SCAL1 as the features were minimal compared to SCAL2. I'd spend the money and upgrade to SCAL2 and leave Inkscape alone for now. There are a lot of tutorials for SCAL2 that may help you decide.

You can search this forum for SVGs by using the Search button in the top right hand corner. Once you have found something you want to cut you download it (I put it on my desktop and then it goes in a folder for svgs.) Open SCAL and hit the svg button on the top bar, find the svg you want to cut, tell it to open (or double click) It should then show up on your mat. If you are connected to your Cricut the last step is to tell it to cut. You can easily size the object, add text (toolbar on the right) or anything else you want. There are a lot of free svgs on the internet too, just do a google search for "free svgs" . The new program has a trace option etc. but if you haven't upgraded there is no reason to go into that now. Don't forget to set your blade depth and pressure before you cut.

Yes, Susan Bluerobot has some great tutorials with Inkscape. That's how I learned it, I toggled back and forth between her lesson and Inkscape and went one step at a time.
