Cricut Expression w/no working LCD w/SCAL

Was just wondering if anyone out there is using a Cricut Expression with a non functional LCD screen with SCAL? I have an Expression that I bought 2nd hand (I know, bad idea) and I am having issues with the LCD screen not working. I really don't think it's a huge deal because I will never be using the cartridges! I will be using SCAL for all my cutting since I am mainly cutting stencils out of mylar/vinyl. It still cuts, you just can't see the size or any other info on the screen. (again, not necessary if using SCAL) The woman I bought it from says everything was functional and she recently cut out some pumpkins with it. She is very helpful via email and I am pretty sure if I am unpleased with my purchase, she will take the E back. I have tried the reset option that I have found on some Cricut forums and still am not sure if it worked yet. (Have to wait 20-30 minutes!) Guess I'm just looking for some feedback. Obviously, I do not want to have a machine that is not fully functional, but I did buy it at a pretty great deal so hoping someone else out in SCAL world is also not using the LCD screen!

Thanks in advance for any input!

I don't use the LCD screen since I use SCAL exclusively with the E. If you are using SCAL exclusively, I can see why the LCD screen not working would be a problem. Plus the screen is such a low resolution that the computer screen is better anyway. Many times it was hard to see exactly what the design was anyway.

I never look at the LCD screen when I am cutting from SCAL. So I think you should be good.

You may already know this, but you do need ONE cartridge for SCAL to work... doesn't matter which cart, you just need one in the slot.

My LCD Screen quit working. It did not with SCAL or the cartridges. I was finally able to talk to someone at PC and mine was still under warranty. Had to send the old one back. Waiting for them to send my replacement. Hopefully, I will get it soon because I have a baby shower to get ready for.

Yah, I knew about the cartridges. I have one for the machine. Just trying to decide if I should hassle with the lady and give it back to her and wait for another good deal...or just keep it?!?!? I will never use the screen because I will always be using SCAL, I think its just the fact that I will have a machine that will not be completely functional if or whenever I would want to get rid of it!!

Did you try tilting the screen up and down from its original flat position? It might be a loose wire or something.

About the only issue I can see with not having the LCD screen is setting the pressure and speed but that should be easy enough to figure a way of doing and keeping track

I know the speed it adjusted through SCAL but not for sure on the pressure. I don't change mine. Just the setting for the blade on the machine.

Yah, I've played with the screen a little and no luck. I've also tried the reset steps from the Cricut forums multiple times, with yet again, no luck. Think my big "E" dreams will have to be on hold for awhile. The woman has agreed to pick it up from me on Friday and I'll get my money back. I feel bad for her and really don't think she was trying to pull a fast one over on me at all, maybe just the transport or something knocked it out of whack! Thanks for all the input. For now, my lil' Cricut will do the trick! Still got the itch for the big one though!
