I created my very first flourish in Inkscapes....saved it as png because I wasn't able to save in any other format....opened it in SCAL...traced it and am not happy with the way it looks. It is very choppy looking, or in other words, not smooth. Any guidance would be very appreciated.

You can save it as SVG in Inkscape. I would highly recommend you to watch this tutorial video on making a flourish. It's awesome and you'll be doing them in no time. :-)

Thank you sooooooo much ladywolf. I am not sure why I wasn't able to save it in svg at first, but I closed the file and opened a new one...saved as svg and it opened nice and smooth in SCAL. I am very excited. :D

ladywolf, I'm Back again with a question.....when I do everything in Inkscapes that scrappydew does in the flourish video I am OK until I try to get it to change width in pattern along a path. It doesn't seem to recognize my brush stroke, I think I may have changed a setting somewhere that is messing things up. Even when I open a new document and try again I still have the same issue. Any suggestions?
