Who can help me with this Inkscape problem?

I got a new laptop with Windows 7, 64 bit. I loaded Inkscape. It seemed to load fine but when I copy something and go to paste it in Ink I get a runtime error message and it shuts down. I thought it might be something with .47 and the new computer so HeatherM gave me a site to get .46. I loaded it and got the same message! What is going on? Does anyone know?

I'm having problems too. Have Laptop running Win7 64 bit, downloaded both 47 and 46 and I can't open either of them. Keep getting an APPCRASH error. Have no idea how to fix it. Ink 46 worked fine on my Vista.

I posted a message asking for help on the Inkscape forum but haven't gotten a reply yet. I'm wondering - does Ink work on Win 7? It shows older versions in the Inkscape FAQ's but nothing about Win7.

I'm using Ink46 on Win7 64 bit and haven't had any problems yet. I am not running in XP compatibility. I think Grammy is using Ink with Win7 too.

Is there a setting I need to change (like HeatherM said she is not running in XP compatibility)? How did you get this to work?

The setting the tech put on my Inkscape program is run the program in Compatibility mode Windows Server 2008 service pack 1. This works fine on my machine. I do however have Windows 7 professional and don't know if that makes a difference. But to access this is right click on you Inkscape shortcut or program and choose the option Compatibility.
then change what you need.

Sorry, another question: I have already uninstalled .46 since it didn't work but I am wondering if I picked the correct one to install from the choices to begin with. I don't remember which one I installed but which of these should I use? These are from Source forge.

inkscape-0.46.win32.debug.7z
inkscape-0.46.win32.7z
Inkscape-0.46.win32.exe
inkscape-0.46.zip.sig
inkscape-0.46.zip
inkscape-0.46.tar.gz.sig
inkscape-0.46.tar.gz
inkscape-0.46.tar.bz2.sig
inkscape-0.46.tar.bz2

I wish I could help you. I would would think it would be the top one but really unsure. Mine was saved from the old .46 I downloaded over a year ago in 2008. I saved the exe to my desk top and the moved it to my external hard drive. I looked and couldn't find it . But I have had a hard time finding it before ;)

I have Win7 Home Premium and haven't had any problems running Ink46 without changing the compatability. Try uninstalling and then use the Inkscape-0.46.win32.exe install and see if that works. There is also a general fix where you delete the Preferences file (I think it is here: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Inkscape\preferences.xml).

Thanks HeatherM and GrammyKrausse for taking time to help. It seems no matter what I tried pasting still crashed Inkscape. I did realize, however, I could use the snip feature (which I am pretty sure I learned about here) that I have now on Windows 7 to do about the same thing so I am not as bummed as I was before. I can still use Ink to make files for SCAL!!! YES!
