Craft Edge

I am trying to learn inkscape I can get as far as getting my pic opened when I click on trace bitmap it doesnt do anything. If I try to save it first it just comes up with an red words (cant remeber what it says cause it closes inkscape) with a big red X. What am I doing wrong???? I have followed 2 different tutorials and neither work. Are there plan english inkscape for dummies instructions?????? I am totally lost at what I am doing wrong here. Oh and I am on vista no surprise huh?

Make sure you choose IMPORT from the SCAL file menu to open .svg files. If you use OPEN, you will not see the image. Don't know if that's your problem, but it is a place to start.

don't select outline in the view mode before you trace. do that after you trace & then select outline. delete the red X image.

what tutorial are you following?

When you made bitmap with the little camera unless you move the top bmp off the original you wont see it, one is ontop of the other. Make sure you seperate the bmp from the original jpg or gif or ? I usually delete the bottom graphic.

Also when you do the trace bitmap, make sure you have your image "selected". Click on the select tool (arrow) in the tool menu then click on your image so that arrows show up on the edges and corners. That's what I was doing wrong when I first started.
