I took a look at that file. I've not tried to cut it myself, but I did open it in inkscape.
It appears to be one file on top of another & the two are "grouped" together. It might work if the file is "ungrouped"--object:ungroup & then remove either the top or bottom layer; then drag your mouse around & select the entire thing, then path: combine. then save & import & cut in scal.
i don't have scal, so I don't know if that will work, but I think it might.
It's always a good idea to check any files that you did not make. Open them in inkscape & look at the nodes & lines etc. while viewing in "ouline" mode.
hope this helps.
Well then. Guess I better download Inkscape.

LOL. I was actually going to do that for you--but it's homework & dinner time, then family time & bed time routine........and ds has been pretty sick........and, and, and...........lol.
I might get a chance after ds is in bed to work on it.

Awww you're so sweet! Sorry ds has been sick. Tend to him - it's more important!
Maybe this is the incentive I need to TRY inkscape!!

here's the file after I made changes to it.
what I did:
*opened in inkscape
*changed view mode to outline
*object: ungroup
*path: break apart
*separated the layers
*path: combine --only for the "red" layer as the other one seemed fine
*path: simplify--I did this to both layers
*selected blue for the "blue" layer & red for the "red" layer
*changed view mode to normal
*saved file
Now, I have no idea if this will eliminate the problem of it only cutting as a solid square in SCAL or not, but I think it might. I know that when working with inkscape & roboaster & then to wishblade software, that if a file is "grouped" rather than combined or union under path, that the file will get all wonky & not work.
If you happen to try to cut this, I'd love to know how it worked out for you.
(shellie, I hope you don't mind that I did this. I have no problem with removing this file if you have any objections whatsoever!)

Thanks Jancy!!! That's so great!
I tried to save the file but it's not letting me. It just opens the image as a jpg for some reason.

I downloaded and cut it and it worked fine. I cut one side in blue and the other in red...

I got it to download this morning as an svg file (for some reason yesterday "save file as" wasn't an option when I right clicked

) but I haven't played with inkscape yet (or even downloaded it!) so I haven't been able to convert it. That will be today's task!

you don't need to convert it---you can import an svg into SCAL to cut it

Ha! I forgot about that! I've been focusing so much on learning Inkscape that i forgot SCAL had an import feature.
