Welding with Inkscape

I've worked out how to rotate the individual letters or any shape. Left click twice on the letter and a small cross appears in the middle, then just grab one of the arrows at the side of it, and you can turn it around.

Right, must stop now and go out!

With regards to typing text one letter after the next just like normal typing (not separate boxes), to be able to move the letters (kerning) closer together, you must be sure to unflow the text or else the Alt + <,> keys won't work. Select your text and go up to the Text option at the very top of the screen (you'll find between Path and Effects). Click on Text, then choose Unflow (or Shift+Alt+W). Now you will be able to move your letters closer together. Once you have them where you like them, then do Path, object to path, then Union. Save as an .svg file and import to SCAL.

As yet, I haven't worked out how to position letters at an angle, but then it's early days....

you can do that by using a program such as powerpoint, etc.

just type your text & manipulate it as you like, save as a jpeg or bitmap & then open in inkscape & trace.
