I would also like to know how to get the word art to a SCAL format.

2 ways you can do this:
Screen Capture and Trace
give the text a black fill in word and then snap a screen shot and save it as a png or jpg. Then import it into SCAL2 and trace. If you don't know how to save a screen shot as a jpg check out this page for resources according to your OS.

Print to SVG
make the text black outline no fill in MSWord and Print to SVG according to these instructions on my blog.

BTW, these 2 techniques allow you to grab and convert all kinds of things so they are good tools to have in your arsenal. Neither requires Inkscape. Print to SVG will work with SCAL1 or SCAL2 as no tracing is required, but you must start with a vector image (word art in Word generates a vector image).
