Actually you can flip your blade, when I was trying to make fold lines someone suggested turning the blade upside down, I did work, I had to turn my housing up higher so it probably would engrave softer materials, but not anything as hard as acrylic, but who knows it might.

I got the Pazzles engraving tip w/housing and have been trying that in my Cricut. It works OK, but better on thicker materials since you cannot adjust the depth on it. I have practiced on scrap CDs and it works nicely on that. Anyone know where I can get acrylic that thickness?

Try McMaster Carr for acrylic sheet.

All kinds of materials that would be good to engrave.
EDIT - on second thought, .06 might be a bit thicker than a typical CD.
Polystyrene can be had in 1/32 (.031) thicknesses. McMaster Carr has it in 40" x 6' (thats 6 FEET) lengths for $14.87 a sheet. However it's opaque with a white tint.

Have a look around their site.

I wonder if you get tiny shavings when you engrave and that might hurt the machine?

It is quite easy to engrave any name or logo using cricut vinyl cutter. It will sticking your name on the side in vinyl. But it can be engraved at low cost with the help of exacto knife. It has several benefits like as engraving on glass and mirror etc.
