I'm about to pull my hair out! I removed everything but the main letters and I can't even open it. I guess I can try and start over from scratch and see if that helps. I did save the file on the cloud if anyone would be interested in trying to open it from that file in an e-mail.

Either I'm not doing something right or there is a problem with my scal. I imported a different svg file. I then exported it as an svg. Now it won't open either.

What version of SCAL are you using? I think 2.044 is the latest.

I was working with the version before the 3.050. Just a little bit ago I upgraded to the newest and it didn't make any difference. I tried do simple text and exporting as svg and I get a blank page when I import the file.

I decided to go up to my laptop that is connected to my cutter. I had been working downstairs on my desktop. Anyway, I exported as a svg and then was able to reopen the file and see it! So, here's crossing my fingers that it works and you can open it.

OK had a quick play and using just the letters from your file I ungrouped them, select each one and did either path>back minus front or path>front minus back - if I did one and hte letter vanished then I did ctrl + Z (undo) and do the other one - this got rid of the inside bits of the letter like "P" etc then used object>add shadow a few times changing colours etc I got this, which I think is close to your bottom image. don't know if it's any good.
