WAHOOO so happy it is working, I wrote it so quickly. One clarification. Don't use "place image" use "trace image" for the image you want to cut around unless you just want another shape around it.

Here is a picture of a "photo" that I had. I used "place image" to get it into SCAL. I use matte photo paper not glossy as it seems to tear in the cutter.

Turn show outline only OFF if you cannot see the placed image. This is quirky I think.
Use the octagon shape from the shapes table.
You now have two layers (without doing anything)
turn off the shape layer and print the picture
move paper from print to mat aligning as you see using the arrow on the mat screen to ensure alignment
turn on the shape layer and turn off the photo layer
cut

WOW you can really dress up some of your photos. Let me know if I've confused you with this one.

I am a little confused, but that is normal :) I just printed your directions, and now I will open the program and try.
Thanks for working to figure this all out. I appreciate it!

What did I do that confused you (I'm really good at confusing being a LOL (looney old lady). Love what you did and the picture shows off the technique really well.

Thanks for playing with me. :P

I'll do a video on the whole thing if someone doesn't do it sooner than I can get to it.

WOW, look a photo in SCAL. This is VERY COOL!!! Still working to see what happens next :P
This will be AWESOME for people for scrapbook layouts.

I put an octagon around it. There is like a little delay...and I have to wait to let the program catch up with my command...but in just holding the mouse down and giving it a second it takes hold and things can be moved and adjusted.

This is very cool. I just did mine on white cardstock to test it. Very cool!
Now all we need are like some wallpaper computer images to print for the bg shape!

I get it now, about bringing in an image as a trace(.png)in this case...making sure that the "show outline" is off, put a shape around it...still working with octagon...turn it off, and print ornament...turn off ornament and cut octagon...VERY VERY COOL!!!

This is another way I did it.. Because we have no showing outline only image without showing everything as outline I took this photo and my shape placed it together.. Hit back minus front and that brought me just the cutout of the shape.. Then I rebrought the same photo back into SCAL and look at the results :D ...
