Thicker letters

I have a font that I made the letters thicker but now have lost the center of like the letter h, l and e. Is there a way to get the centers back but, still have the letters thicker? Thanks in advance for any help.

How did you do to make them thicker?

She makes inaccurat SCAL videos, thus I wouldn't trust anything she shows.

Here's a method typically used for thickening letters. Type the text. Select the text. Go to Path>Offset Path and enter a very small Offset size, such as 0.005". It doesn't take much. This is from the SCAL User Manual:
