SCAL can't find Cricut. help!

I am trying to cut something for school tomorrow and SCAL keeps giving me the error saying that Cricut is not found. I have tried everything I can think of. Turned Cricut on and off, tried different usb cord, tried different ports, turned off computer and restarted. I checked on my computer to make sure it was recognizing something connected to the usb and it is but SCAL still can't find it. Any suggestions?

I've had this happen already....and I turned everything off and shut down computer. Unplug the USB cord too. I think I then restarted my computer, then plugged in the usb cord and then turned on the Cricut. Then open SCAL.

Is this when you go to hit cut and begin cutting or can't you even open scal. If it is when you go to Start Cutting, just click Start cutting again or maybe you have a refresh key on the left there in the Start cutting box.

This is all I can think of.

Did any of the solutions help? I had the same thing happen to me today and SCAL asks me to confirm my machine and firmware version. My Cricut E has firmware version 2.43 but SCAL only is showing version 2.1 or 2.3. Does this mean I can't use SCAL anymore?? Please help a confused user
