I already installed the last version of SCAL to a Big Sur Mac OS system and I'm having trouble because software does not recognize silver bullet professional series. I selected the cutter, it appears on the usb of the machine but the software does not recognize it.

Can you explain in more detail what you mean by this statement: "it appears on the usb of the machine" ? Screenshots or photos are always helpful.

I recently purchased scal5 pro. Do I need to have a previous version installed to make it connect to my plotter (MH871-Mk2)? Seems like there is no driver included with the software. I am running a brand new PC with windows 10.

No, you do not need a prior version of SCAL installed.

Please refer to Section 1.01.4 of this manual for instructions on getting your cutter added:

I'm not familiar with your cutter brand/model so I can't really help too much with which Windows 10 driver is needed. Most cutters can use FTDI drivers so the following is worth testing:

(1) Unplug your USB cable if you have it plugged into your computer.

(2) Go to this link, scroll down to the table

https://ftdichip.com/drivers/d2xx-drivers/

(3) On the far right side you'll see "setup executable"... click on that link, download, extract, and run it.

(4) After running that file, reboot Windows and wait for Windows to fully come back up.

(5) Then connect the USB cable to your computer, turn on the cutter, and wait like 15 seconds or so.

(6) Open SCAL, go to the Cut Settings window, click on the refresh icon (to the left of Test Connection).

(7) Click on Test Connection and the cutter head should do a small jog back and forth.

(8) If you still get no response, right click on the Windows Start button and select Device Manager. Look for a Ports folder and report back what it shows inside. If there is no Ports folder, look for any listing of an Unknown Device in the Device Manager menu and report that.

Note also, that you need to have a match between the Baud Rate set on the cutter and the Baud Rate in SCAL.

SCAL5 always worked perfectly with Big Sur. I am currently downloading Monterrey and will let you know if it seems to be working for me. Either way, the developer of SCAL is always very dedicated to making sure SCAL is compatible with all current Mac and PC updates.
