OK I found the solution to the problem, I had to go back and do a "Path>Union" on the files that I generated using inkscape. All looks good for now- yea!

Problems creating word book in inkscape & reading in SCAL
I created a word book in inkscape and all looks OK:
This is what the file looks like when I read it in to SCAL:
I am using the latest inkscape and SCAL2 versions.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to what I am doing wrong?
