Re: Forcing cutting order

I have included a picture of a typical wing rib with arrows showing cross grain and with grain cuts. I want to make all cross grain cuts first and it takes about 3 passes to complete them then do the with the grain cuts. What this does is it makes much more accurate cuts where there is a 90 degree i...

Forcing cutting order

I cut balsa wood with my Sizzix and it works great but it would really work better if I could force it to make the cross grain cuts first then the cuts that are with the grain. Is there an easy way to do this? I have been using Inkscape to trace my plans and then importing into eCAL. I could try to ...

Re: Layers

Another question on this. I am cutting balsa wood and it will probably work better on the 90 degree cuts that go across the balsa grain were cut separately. Can I set up the cut to do one layer first and then the other layer?

Re: Layers

Thanks that worked. I selected the text then selected Path -> Object to Path. Then when I imported it to ecal2 the text layer shows up. Thanks a lot for the help.

Layers

I am working with ecal 2 and inkscape. My project in inkscape has 2 layers. One layer is for the cut the other is for text. When I import the SVG with the 2 layers it only shows as one layer and I lose all the text. Do I have to create the text in a layer in ecal or should it be able to import the t...

Re: Cutting thick material

I getting really good results cutting balsa with this machine but I still have some problems with the 60 degree blade dragging across the sheet when at full depth. I realize this is using a blade angle not standard with the machine but it does allow cutting the thicker balsa. Is there anyway to impr...

Re: Trying something a little different

Been a while since I have been on this forum but wanted to puts some pics up to show how well the Eclips is working for cutting balsa for model planes. It really cut them pretty accurately. I scanned the airplane plans and used GIMP to isolate the ribs and place them so they fit on a 3" wide sh...

Re: Cutting thick material

One thing I noticed when I was doing a test cut last night is the blade drags across the balsa when it completes a cut and parks. I am using a 60 degree blade to get it to cut the 1/16" balsa so the blade is longer than a standard blade for the eclips. I wonder if there is any setting that can ...

Re: Using Inkscape for model airplane plans

Yes that is exactly what I was doing this morning and it gives a precise notch. That with the ability to get the grid in 1/16 inch is making it easier to be more precise. The notches need to be square not rounded.
