I was wondering, if scal has automatic back up. I have been working in mtc for YEARS and I can NOT even begin to tell you how many times auto back up saved my tooshy! I am no trying to switch over and I am missing so many features! But, I have gained a lot too. That was just a function I relied on. ...

Unfortunately you absolutely cannot use a Cricut with scal. The makers of Cricut sued several software makers to stop them from being able to work with their machines. I would HIGHLY recommend not using construction paper for ANYTHING, too fibery. I know not a word but it is a real thing! It makes your blade catch on the fibers tearing your paper. I would suggest cardstock of ANY kind! You will have so much better results! You can even buy it at Target and office ...

My best guess would be is that the shape is not completely closed all the way. So the software is seeing it as a line that didn't meet the other end.
