I recently bought a printable purse template that is in jpg or png format. I would like to convert it to an svg file so that I can cut it with my Cricut instead of by hand. When you print it out though it is a very light gray color. How do I get Inkscape to convert that to a good cut file? When I try to trace it in Inkscape, it still looks a light gray and when I try to open it up in SCAL it says something like "image has embedded images and has to be converted to outlines first". Any help would be appreciated.

You may need to increase the Brightness cutoff Threshold. I have a post on my blog with more info on this. If you still see light gray after tracing, it means that the template wasn't traced.

The warning "image has embedded images and has to be converted to outlines first" isn't important. SCAL2 always warns when you have images or unconverted text in a file. As long as you have converted everything that you want to cut to a vector, it will work.
