Here is an Inkscape file with text on a circle. You should be able to change the font to one you like, manipulate the circles until you have what you want, then select all of the text, Path/Object to path. Delete the circles before importing into SCAL.

You can manipulate the text very easily before you Path/Object to path. Any changes made to the circles before the text is converted to Path will change the font appearance or location. If the circular text goes off center when you change the font, double click on the correct circle and rotate the circle. The text will follow. If you use a taller font, click on the outer circle, hold the shift key and control key, then drag one of the corner arrows until the top of the year font is touching the inner circle.

If you want more of an oval do the following (Before Path/Object to path), select one circle, hold the shift key and select the second circle, still holding the shift key, use either the top or bottom bounding box arrows and squish the circle until you like it.

You can use the word art from a word processing program also. Firstcut has a tut on her blog. http://cleversomeday.wordpress.com/2009 ... r-cutting/

Thank you all so much for your help,

cardmkrLeslie I went to your page and read your blog I downloaded the paint program you recommended and that will be added to my programs that I need to teach myself I am trying to teach myself how to use inkscape and SCAL because now that I purchased it I still havent used it because I am not sure how too. Anyway I did step by step what your blog said to do using word

It says in Word go to Insert * Picture * WordArt

Here is where I have a problem I have Insert* Picture but then I only have options of Clip Art* From a file * or New Paintng

So I think maybe I have a different version than you.

I have insert and then Under Pictures I have the following choices
watermark
Text Box
Spreedsheet
Object
Hyperlink

Do I need a different version or is their another way I can get the same results using the version I have ?

Thanks again to all of your response I will read them all and if anyone can teach me in easy english how to use SCAL or inkscape then I promise to repay the favor one day. I am a 40 year old women, please dont tell anyone I said that. And I have no doubt that I can read enought to figure out how to use them myself but if someone wants to help me I am more than willing to learn. Maybe I should tell you some of the projects I would like to be able to do and you can tell me how I can do them as if you were trying to teach your child. If not I understand completely. The person who posted the image at the end of my question with the picture this is exactly what I want now I just need to know how to get that info my SCAL program and how to ad a name and cut it but I am not sure how to do that either. But yall have all been very helpful and I wanted to thank you all.

If anyone else has to time to tell me what is the difference between SCAL 1 and 2 what does 2 do that 1 doesnt ?

Thanks, Dalla

DallaR,
I am on a Mac, but I understand that they moved WordArt around in the recent versions of MSWord, but it is still there. Just look in Word's help for "WordArt" to find out where it is. Or do a search online with wordart and your version of Word.
