Dad's boat

Well it was a wet weekend here so I decided to use it to my advantage and have a play.
I haven't got SCAL full version but have got the trial version. I wanted to give it a good workout to see that I was happy with what it could do.
Anyway then I read on the Yahoo noticeboard about the ability to make .svg files. So I installed inkscape. Then I thought now what can I do? Well my father has a boat and has a drawing of the boat in .jpg format so I used that and converted it via inkscape into .svg files - I did one for each colour (sort of like how the Mickey Mouse Cricut cart works) and cut each one and put it together and this is the result.
And yes I know that the trial version does the 4 watermark cuts but I reduced the blade pressure to 1 until the cuts had been done and then was able to cut the pieces I wanted.
So I am so thrilled that I shall be buying the full version now.

That is awesome! Could we have more details on how you did the color separations?

TFS!!!

It took me most of the afternoon as I wasn't sure what I was doing to start with.
So first off I opened dad's .jpg in MS Paint and for the first layer which is the grey colour (which is the background or shadow cut) I erased everything except the outline of the boat. The put it into Inkscape which drew the cutting line for me of the outline of the boat. Then I imported that into SCAL and put the grey card in the Cricut and cut it.

Then I went back to my MS Paint and found the original image and wanted to cut the white pieces next so erased anything that wasn't white, then took that over to Inkscape which drew the pieces, import into SCAL and then white card into Cricut for cut.

And I repeated this process for the blue pieces, red and green strips then glued them all on to the grey background piece.
Whew - hope that makes sense - I sort of knew what I was doing by the time I wanted to cut the red and green pieces :D

Raewyn,

That's kind of what I thought you would have had to do. Now, a question: Would it have been just a tad easier if SCA had multiple pages so you could have put the individual colors on individual pages?

I have asked for multiple pages on the Wishlist portion of this message board thinking your boat would be a perfect example why multiple pages within SCA would be a grand idea. If you use Design Studio then you might know what I am talking about.

Yes I agree this would be something multiple sheets would help with.
