Craft Edge

I hope someone out there in the ether can help, I have finally managed to import some dingbat files into my font file ( a real achievement for this fossil) but how do I work out which key on the keypad determines the shape in that file ?? Doe smy question even make sense??

I just click on the picture with the mouse. I don't use keyboard.
