I have looked to find an answer online for why the Eclipse2 was discontinued and have found nothing. If there is a mechanical issue I would like to know about it.

When a cutter model is discontinued it's typically either replaced by a new model or sales were so slow that the product line was discontinued. Because of better marketing, the sales of Cricuts, Cameos, and Brother Scan N Cuts dominate the cutter market. That being said, if you ever decide to replace your Eclipse2, check out the Skycut line of cutters. They offer so much more in terms of accuracy and speed compared to those other brands... I love mine!

I had purchased a second E2 just two months before they "quietly" discontinued the product. In my opinion Cricut's ability to get its (give away) product into all Michael's and Joann's is the cause. Ellison comes from the old school of build it...and they will come...which is no longer the case. Exposure and convenience to be able to see and touch a major purchase, rules today.

My inquiry is relative to electro-mechanical issues that I have not already identified and rectified on my own. The skew of the 24" cutting mat is an issue due to mass and flex causing the mat to not lay flat as it travels fore and aft during cutting. I resolved this by placing the E2 such that the mat enters and extends to the rear on a flat extension of my work area. E2 is actually recessed in a trough deep enough to permit the mat to pass for and aft without a rise or fall from the cutting platen...preventing bowing during fore and aft movement.

If there is anyone who knows of other issues I would like to hear from them. This in order for me to correct or at least compensate for the issue. I have been happy with the accuracy and function of my E2 making cockpits for scale radio control airplanes...large ones.

This is the only issue I found with the E2.

Facebook is the #1 place to find people who share your cutter. I just searched and found 2 groups:

Thanks for the reply. However I do not participate in social media sites due to the carnivorous nature of the hosts. Some would say that is bunk...however within them is a skunk... ;^) You can't shovel excrement without getting it on you.

Oh, I get your point! Trust me. But it's my job to provide tech support so I have to go to wherever all of the questions are being asked. The Yahoo groups and forums like this one were once hugely popular and that's where I spent most of my day helping. Now most of the Yahoo groups are completely inactive... no one EVER posts at them. And the forums are lucky to have 1 or 2 posts per day. But on the Facebook support groups, it's crazy busy, so I have to be there.
